Peasmarsh village voice

Master of Ceremonies, Ray Harrington-Lowe introduced Deputy Lieutenant, Baroness Stedman-Scott who opened the event and distributed special “Peasmarsh” editions of a commemorative coin to all young people from the village. Music was supplied by Sussex Brass, and later by local DJs, Synergy. Prizes of Special Jubilee mugs from “James Dean” of Peasmarsh were awarded for the best red, white and blue fancy dress in 3 primary age groups. Hundreds who came to the Recreation Ground were entertained by Rye Dance, The Hastings Coastal Twirlers, and in the evening by a large group of visiting Morris Men. Dog lovers had the chance to enter their pooches in a variety of Fun classes and were then treated to a display of obedience and agility from a local team.

Every child of 12 and under had an invitation to a free tea-party, while a group fund-raising for a Homewood School project in Africa supplied tea and cakes for the rest. Peasmarsh artisans displayed jewelry and wood and metalcraft for sale and the Primary School PSA and the Flying Start Pre-School provided entertainment in the form of a lucky dip and various competitions.

In the evening there was music from Synergy and a barbecue run by Jempson’s Superstore and bar from the Horse and Cart.

Everyone had an enjoyable and memorable day and the organising committee would like to thank all those many residents who stepped in and contributed in any way to such a successful celebration.

Young people who have not yet collected their coins should look in next week’s Village Voice or the next edition of the Peasmarsh Periodical to find out when and where they can collect them.

It was lovely to hear the church bells ringing for the Jubilee, thanks go to the Beckley and Peasmarsh Bellringers!

As recently mentioned in the Village Voice the inaugural run of this race took place on Sunday 27th May and attracted nearly 150 entries.

The race started and finished at Jempsons’ car park and took in the back lanes of Peasmarsh and Beckley as part of the 10 mile course

On a very hot day the winner still manage to run the race in under an hour with the final competitor completing the course in just over 2 hours

Thanks go to Martin and Cathy and their team at Nicework for staging this event in aid of The Peasmarsh Memorial Hall fundraising efforts and Kevin and Carol at the Cock Inn for allowing the use of their garden for the runner registration and for laying on tea, coffee and a BBQ.

Thanks also to Jempsons’ for the use of their cark park and the members of staff who came to open the car park.

Special thanks to all the volunteers who helped to make this a success by giving up their Sunday morning to help man road junctions and water stations.

Local Artist Carol Mitchell is opening her studio with South East Open Studios this June. She paints with Mixed Media and Watercolour, demonstrations will be taking place as well as the opportunity to see and buy a large variety of work. The Peasmarsh Flying Start baby and toddler group is held at the Peasmarsh Memorial Hall every Thursday morning (during term time) from 9.30am-11.30am and costs £2 per family, all welcome.

We are also lucky to have an ‘Outstanding’ Pre-School in our village - the Flying Start Pre-school is housed in a purpose built building at Peasmarsh School, term time only from 9am until 3.30pm.
