Part time hours for Little Common bank

The Natwest bank in Little Common has gone part-time.

On days the bank is closed customers are advised their nearest is the Bexhill branch in Devonshire Road.

A Natwest spokesman told the Observer: “The decision to reduce the hours at our Little Common branch has not been taken lightly, but is a response to falling customer demand and subsequently the workload no longer justifies the current opening hours.

“Critically, reducing the hours will enable us to maintain a branch presence in Little Common, rather than considering closure.

“It will also enable us to deploy more staff at our busier branches in the area, which will provide a service outside of these revised hours.

“Customers will also have 24-hour access to our telephone and online banking facilities and the external cash machine situated at the newly opened Tesco.”

The branch has been open in Cooden Sea Road for almost 40 years but from 1996 has operated as a sub-branch.

It first appeared in Little Common and Cooden when London County Westminster and Parr’s Bank opened at 6 Cooden Sea Road on July 27 1920. In July 1928 it moved to new premises at 1 Bank Buildings and in 1962 became a full branch, moving 11 years later to 63/65 Cooden Sea Road with commencement of business from September 3 1973.
