Thanks for representing Worthing Tom

TOMORROW, Major Tom Wye will hand the reins over as Mayor of Worthing.

I am sure we speak for all the residents of the borough when we thank and congratulate Tom and his mayoress Lesley for an outstanding year as Worthing's first citizens.

After a succession of excellent mayors who have put party politics aside to promote and represent our town, he will be another very hard act to follow.

He has been the living embodiment of the phrase "if you want a job done, ask a busy person".

Not only has Tom been constantly in the news with his never-ending mayoral engagements and fund-raising for his good causes, but he has also chaired the Keep Worthing And Southlands Hospitals (KWASH) campaign committee, and kept up a full-time day job as our professional agent.

Added to that, his close involvement with many service charities and countless other voluntary bodies, it is incredible that he has been able to cram so much into his year.

We know how proud Tom and Lesley have been to represent and promote their home town.

I am sure that pride is reciprocated by many for the skilful and dedicated way they have carried it through.
