'Outrageous waste' of public money for obvious answers

THANK YOU for asking the question: "Should £9,000 be spent for a consultant to tell councillors how to be nice to each other".

This proposal is another example of an outrageous waste of money.

We all know that we pay consultants handsome sums of money to tell us what we already know.

Being nice to each other is basic good behaviour, and if councillors and council staff are so challenged as to be unable to behave in such a manner without being told, then they should not occupy those positions.

The officers' report to committee is couched in the meaningless but high-sounding gobbledy gook of committee speak, which anyone with any sense should be able to see right through.

Nor do I feel 50,000 should be spent on consultants to find efficiency savings in its leisure and cultural services.

I would suggest there are enough people around, working within the service and familiar with the service who can point out where savings can be made.

The truth is, I suspect, that the answers are self-evident and already known, but no one has the courage to say so and take action, so any difficult decisions are put off and distanced by wasting money on consultants who will do no more than come to the same conclusions.
