Students enjoy the sights of Germany

The group thoroughly enjoyed the visit and during their stay with host families were able to get a valuable insight into the German culture and way of life.

In addition to exploring Lindau, the students also had the chance to enjoy excursions to Neuschwanstein, the fairy tale castle from Ludwig the second, the Pfänder in Austria and a tour of the world famous library at St Gallen, in Switzerland.

Katja Welton, who co-ordinated the trip, said: “It was a fantastic educational experience and all of the students appreciated being able to practice their German and learn about the culture.”

Some lucky Collyer’s students also had the opportunity to actively take part in an English lesson for year 3 pupils at a local primary school. They read the hungry caterpillar, whilst the children did an exercise to the story.

Paul Clarke, Collyer’s Additional Needs Coordinator who accompanied the exchange, said: “The students really enjoyed the educational and cultural opportunities the visit afforded, especially the trips to Neuschwanstein and St Gallen, and the chance to participate in teaching and learning in classes with their exchange partners.”

Collyer’s Vice Principal, Steve Nicholls, said: “The exchange is a vitally important part of learning German for the Collyer’s students and I’m delighted that they have thoroughly enjoyed their visit. Katja has done a superb job co-ordinating the trip and our students were a credit to Collyer’s.”

Katja added: “We all thoroughly enjoyed this valuable learning opportunity whilst experiencing one another’s culture and making many new friends. We are extremely grateful to our kind hosts for their incredible hospitality.”
