Speeding cars in residential areas beggar belief

I read with interest how Sussex Police is ‘pulling out all the stops to crack down on dangerous and anti-social motorists’.

I wonder if this will stretch to Hailsham because the speed at which many motorists drive down Hempstead Lane and Anglesey Avenue – both residential roads with 30 mph limit – beggars belief.

I regularly walk my dogs early in the morning and it is particularly bad then.

Trying to cross either road means taking your life in your hands.

Pardon my scepticism but I rarely see any police presence in Hailsham at any time so I am not expecting any change any time soon.

I once tried to get a Community Speed Watch along Anglesey Avenue without success. It worked well in Ringmer.

Even speed bumps along Anglesey Avenue would help. Gleneagles Drive in Hailsham has them installed and houses on that estate don’t front Gleneagles Drive. Anglesey Avenue has residential properties both sides of the Avenue.

I have even witnessed car drivers going the wrong side of the keep left sign on Anglesey Avenue.
