Sensational sound of steel was a joy

YOUR report (Gazette, July 7) cites “A new dimension” added by the TLA Steel Band to the recent town twinning visit to Durmersheim but, for me, this was actually a 3-D experience.

The other two were that I’d never previously witnessed either a steel band concert (brass and silver have always been more my thing) or the sensational, scintillating sounds of The Littlehampton Academy Steel Band.

I know it wasn’t necessary to endure a 13-hour, 600 mile journey, but I was (and clearly so many others were) delighted with the experience.

Precision combined with excellent musicianship, showmanship and choreography to give a show par excellence and, in the true spirit of twinning, it was great to see two students from Durmersheim’s Realschule joining in the fun.

One cannot achieve such high standards of performance without many hours of dedicated diligence and hard work so many congratulations to Lee Nelson and all the band members - you did us all, your school, your town and your country so very proud!
