Restrictions are unfair to Pier Road residents

I FULLY agree with Kay Steines' letter (Gazette, May 13) regarding parking in Arun Parade alongside the Oyster Pond.

Where are residents above the businesses in Pier Road supposed to park?

There is the Windmill car park, with its charges, but why should they have to pay to park when they already pay substantial amounts to Arun

District Council in council tax?

Those living in South Terrace do not have to pay to park outside their homes, so why should it be different for those in Pier Road, who abide by the rules by not parking on double yellow lines, and use Arun Parade?

Arun Parade does not cause any problems or cause congstion, so why is it limited to one hour when the seafront is not?

This restriction does not help to attract visitors to this part of Littlehampton, where the traders work really hard to cater for them.

Make Arun Parade free parking, which will benefit the area, and let the parking enforcement officers concentrate on dealing with the motorists who insist on parking on double yellow lines in areas such as Surrey Street and opposite Lloyds Bank in Beach Road, which does cause a problem and congestion – I have witnessed this many times, with emergency vehicles unable to get through, and an accident waiting to happen.
