More than banners needed to save town

I READ with great intent the article about the rejunevation of Littlehampton (Gazette, May 6).

I can't see how the town is becoming a better place.

Firstly, Costa Coffee – granted, it is nice to have a big name in the town, but how many other coffee shops do we have, small businesses trying to make a go of things.

Iceland – great shop, wrong location. No parking, trolleys that cannot leave the shop, so you can't push your shopping to the nearby car park.

Worse still, when the delivery van is outside the shop loading up, it completely blocks Surrey Street!

As for the market that is starting shortly, if it is to be in the car park, is it going to take up a lot of spaces?

If so, where are the visitors going to park?

With the majority of residents in posession of bus passes, who is going to stay in Littlehampton, despite these shops, when we have nothing else to back it up, i.e., butchers, greengrocers, shops like Wilkinson, clothes shops, Argos, etc?

There is only one solution to this – bring decent shops into Littlehampton, along with something for the youth to do, or start making a small charge for the bus journeys, so that people may stay in the town if they are against paying for their travel.

I have lived in Littlehampton all my life and it has hit rock bottom. A few banners and a handful of shops are not going to rejuvenate it and bring it back!
