Merchant seamen played their part

As Remembrance Day approaches when we give thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in two World Wars I would like to ensure that the Merchant Navy’s contribution is included, and never be forgotten.

The best way of doing this is to quote the January 1945 message from the First Lord of the Admiralty (A.V.Alexander). “The Royal Navy and Merchant Navy services are equal partners in a gigantic task which is now on the way to a triumphant conclusion. The fight is now going to us, it is now a winning battle, but we shall never forget the ordeals of the Merchant Navy which have made these huge successes possible, and Britain must never forget either”.
