Mary How Trust marks 25 years

The event, which raised funds for the charity’s unique health screening service, drew participants from the Trust’s West Sussex heartland as well as further afield – one guest flew in from Thailand!

Principal sponsor was the Golden Charitable Trust, and Lewis Golden OBE attended.

Other major sponsors were popular Sussex businesses such as Nyetimber, Parham House & Gardens, Toovey’s Fine Art Auctioneers, Harwoods and Allans of Petworth & Storrington.

The generous support of these sponsors together with other donors and guests raised net proceeds of £32,000 for the charity.

Mary How Trust chairman, Michael Follis, said this remarkable gift would help to save lives through the prevention and detection of serious illness. He thanked everyone who had made this possible, including all the members of the public who generously donated at the Goodwood exits.

The final race was the Mary How Trust Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, won by Frankie Dettori on Buredyma.

After presenting the winning trainer with his memento, Mary How’s son, Jeremy, commented: “My sister, Victoria, and I both recall attending the charity’s first big event in our early teens, held at Goodwood House.

“It was so fitting to be back on the Goodwood estate, this time enjoying the racing in glorious sunshine.

“Our parents would be so proud of the important role the Mary How Trust fulfils, and so humbled to witness the charity receive such wonderful support from both familiar and new faces a quarter century on from its inception.”
