LETTER: What else have we not been told?

Liberty, the US company that has plans with HDC to concrete over 800 acres of green fields north of the A264 between Horsham and Crawley in the Strategic Gap, has had their responses to Cllr Vickers’ housing plan added to the website.

We mere members of the public were restricted to a 200 word limit (or 100 words if you wrote a letter). But apparently if you are rich giants in favour of HDC’s proposals you can write as much as you like.

For example look at Policy SD8 Transport Infrastructure (Pro Sub 2188). They go on in over 320 (not 200) words (abbreviated below) :

‘This Policy incorporates all of the proposed transport infrastructure requirements to develop the strategic development North of Horsham. Details of each of these will need to be provided, together with proposed phasing of works, in relation to the stages of development of this site. This is a ‘sound’ approach, and will provide the clear basis for detailed master planning and the forthcoming planning applications.

‘In order to provide flexibility with regard to the proposed junction into the development east of Rusper Road, we propose changes to paragraph 7.62 and Policy SD8 as follows:-

Paragraph 7.62 (third bullet point) to be replaced by: “A new secondary junction into the development east of Rusper Road.’

Policy SD8 (third bullet point) to be replaced by: ‘A new secondary junction into the development east of Rusper Road.

‘This change would then allow the opportunity to deliver on ‘at grade’ crossing when fully operational.’

There was no mention of a new junction in the documents presented to the council and the public on 30 April when the fateful decision to pass this district-wide development plan was made.

Why wasn’t the public allowed to see the traffic consultancy report commissioned by Liberty from Peter Bretts Associates (PBA), that makes clear this impact on the A264 of the North of Horsham development? It remains kept under lock and key at HDC.

What else have the Gang of Four of Cllrs Dawe, Vickers, Croft and Rae not told us about?

R. FULLER
