LETTER: Safeguards for HAODS’ activities

I am writing to you regarding the new plans for Broadbridge Heath sports centre and how HAODS faces closure unless the council can find the society a new home. HAODS has just celebrated its 60th anniversary and we have been based at BBH leisure centre for about 25 years.

These facilities have suited the society perfectly, allowing for rehearsal space, costume rooms and storage areas for set and props.

I joined HAODS at the age of 14 and have been a member for approximately 11 years. HAODS helped me to grow in confidence and is like a second family to me. The thought of its closure is heart-breaking to all of its members old and new.

Anybody who has seen a HAODS production is aware of the high quality of all shows that have taken place. I have been fortunate enough to take part in what must be 20 shows by now!

Horsham District Council have been in discussion about rehoming HAODS to the Drill Hall in Denne Road, however, many changes would have to take place to allow the society to thrive there.

Hopefully, the council will reconsider the future of HAODS and allow for the people of Horsham to continue to be entertained!
