LETTER: Many plus points of extra runway

I think that there are too many nimbys in the Horsham area over the possibility of Gatwick having an extra runway.

Has anyone tried to get to Heathrow of a morning or late afternoon?

A driver only has to sneeze and you have a five mile delay on the M25 and the option of using another route is just not practical, and just think of the people around Heathrow who already have a plane landing or taking off every so many seconds, plus the enormous upheaval of putting in an extended runway either over or under the M25, villages would be lost forever.

Now for Gatwick, there is ample space to put a new runway parallel with the existing runway and would cause minimum disturbance, planes are so much quieter now.

As an example I remember speaking to the huntsman at the Surrey Union Hunt Kennels many years ago and when a plane went over one had to stop talking as one could not be heard but I was there recently and one hardly noticed the planes going over.

I cannot see any real detriment to the people of Horsham and surrounding areas to what they already get.

If any do I believe there are generous compensation payments available, Gatwick is just so easy to get too, the M25/M23 interchange is nowhere as congested as the Heathrow section of the M25.

I personally dread to think of Heathrow getting even busier as one would have to allow extra time when travelling north to visit anyone.

Now for the benefits of Gatwick, it would produce a lot more employment even if some were to be those parking people who don’t let anyone stop for more than a few seconds to pick someone up (the same applies to Heathrow).

And more employment would be good for all the shops in Crawley and Horsham and perhaps one might not see so many empty shops.

There are so many plus points of an additional runway at Gatwick yet I cannot see one plus point for Heathrow, just think of all these objectors that get stuck in the traffic when taking their holiday flight from Heathrow and think on how much easier Gatwick would be.
