An example of ‘fossilisation’ has been the hysterical reaction from middle class ‘busybodies’ to mineral extraction proposals overlooking the employment opportunities and the fact that industry and natural beauty are quite compatible - just look at Cornwall and their famous tin mines.

In my village of Fittleworth a group of the above said ‘middle class busybodies’ famously joined the parish council in 1995 to oppose mineral extraction plans.
