Mandy Jones who co founded Crowning Years in 1989 recalls how the church at that time was predominantly made up of young families. She wanted to reach out and befriend the elderly in the community and invited a small group of older people to a coffee morning to talk about the relevance of Christianity in their lives. Deep friendships quickly grew and over the last 25 years the group has gone from strength to strength with over 30 people now regularly attending.

Elsie Johnson who has been involved from the beginning and has run the coffee morning for the last 23 years believes the secret of its success is largely due to the way each person who attends is given unconditional love and is treated with dignity and honour.

The purpose of the coffee morning has largely remained unchanged, to provide a place of welcome and friendship for those over 60, and to give an opportunity to explore together the relevance of the Christian message in a caring and supportive environment.

Tea, coffee and cake is always available with each individuals birthday also celebrated.
