Council employees could park and walk

WHENEVER I visit Littlehampton town centre, I never attempt to park in Manor House car park, purely because it is generally more than 95 per cent full from 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday.

It's much easier to park elsewhere around the town perimeter.

The constant congestion within Manor House car park must surely affect shoppers and trade in general for the town centre, but in particular the east end, Beach Road shops and businesses.

Most vehicles in Manor House car park during weekdays are owned by district and town council employees, parking with permits and occupying most spaces before the High Street opens at 9am.

Isn't it about time that individual council employees put their support behind the current campaigns and did the decent thing for both the town and the community?

No public servant should need to be reminded that they are indeed employed to serve the public.

Council employees will be serving the public if they vote with their feet and use nearby free street parking, widely available in such roads as St Winefride's, St Flora's and the like.

There is an abundance of parking spaces within five minutes' walk of the Civic Centre and by using this and walking the final leg into work, they will free up a substantial amount of town centre parking at peak periods.

People working in Brighton park as far out as Portslade and walk in, so it is not asking much for these council employees to do their bit for Littlehampton, park on side streets and waive a concessionary privilege that is no longer viable or appropriate in this economic climate.

Please do your bit for the good of the town as individuals and do not toe the party line.
