City Bells ring for Cranleigh school

Jigsaw educates children diagnosed with autism between the ages of 4 and 19 years of age at their site on Dunsfold Park, Surrey.

City Bells’ concert featured two half hour performances to pupil groups and included a varied mix of ensemble and solo pieces much to the pupils delight.

The sessions were interactive with the musicians encouraging dancing and singing along. Pupils were allowed to get hands-on to feel the vibrations the instruments made as they were played or they could simply watch, up close, the musicians fingers change the notes.

The highlight of both performances was certainly the arrival of the Pink Panther…sneaking in to the famous soundtrack from the back of the room….surprising everyone!!!!

City Bells are supported by the charity, Music in Hospitals and the Peter Harrison Foundation.

Saxophonist, Chez Taylor said: “We really enjoy coming to Jigsaw and working with the children here – it’s a genuine joy to see them interact with the music and watch their differing reactions.

“We hope that everyone was able to take something away with them from today’s performances and that, above all, they enjoyed themselves!”

Jigsaw’s Director of Education, Emma Hawkins also said: “We believe education is key here at Jigsaw and that extends to us providing the broadest possible range of opportunities for our pupils to learn and experience both in and out of the classroom.

“We are very grateful to Music in Hospitals and City Bells Quartet for visiting today – the pupils clearly enjoyed themselves immensely.”
