LETTER: Life chances of vulnerable

In the years ahead there won’t be enough resources to meet the expected demand, so we need a systemic rethink. Local authorities will always have the ultimate responsibility here. But the voluntary sector has an absolutely vital role to play too.

Too much resource is often wasted on bidding for one or two year contracts. Therefore, we urge national and local government to move away from ‘short term fixes and sticking plaster solutions’ and to work with the voluntary sector in strategic partnerships to achieve long lasting change.

We need to be working with local authorities, hand in hand, as partners.

We need to be around the table when the problems are identified and the best solutions worked through.

Sharing our insight, our experience, our understanding of local communities and our knowledge of what works from across the country to help shape services in a way that works better for the vulnerable children and families who need our support.
