VOLUNTEER: Become a driving force for good causes

Could you help to transport blind and partially-sighted people across the Littlehampton area? If so, Volunteer Now! needs your help

Littlehampton Social Club for the Blind and Partially Sighted is appealing for a driver to help out at the group.

The role would see volunteers collecting one or two members of the organisation, bringing them to the club’s functions and back home again.

Drivers are requested to use their own vehicle.

However, a mileage allowance will be paid.

The club is looking for someone with the ability to get on with people so they need to be patient, have a good sense of humour and a willingness to help others.

Other opportunities available this week for prospective volunteers include:

n Patient Link is also seeking a volunteer driver to help those patients needing to attend surgeries, health centres or hospitals but who may not be able to get there by themselves.

The role could see applicants transporting patients from home to a medical appointment.

Volunteers are rarely called upon more than once a week and can claim a mileage allowance of up to 45p per mile plus any other direct expenses.

n Someone with a passion for local history would suit this next role.

The Arundel Museum Society is appealing for a new walks leader to join its ranks for the summer.

The volunteer would help run the museum’s guided walks around Arundel during the summer season.

The walk leader is required to learn a set route, and deliver a walking lecture and presentation about the town’s local history during the trail.

Group sizes can vary but are generally between eight and 20 people, as well as a second volunteer, who will accompany the group as a steward.

This opportunity would suit a retired teacher or lecturer, or a person with acting skills or perhaps a drama student. Detailed training and experience will be given.

n St Wilfrid’s Hospice shop in Barnham is looking for a new assistant to man its fundraising store.

The applicant would help sort displays and donations, as well as operating the till.

The charity is looking for a friendly, polite and reliable volunteer to swell its ranks and support them.
