Olympics plan still looks safe

Following your article last week on the possible impact to 2012 Olympic plans if services are lost at St Richard's, I reassure your readers accident and emergency, intensive care and many more services will remain at St Richard's Hospital.

We believe plans to centralise three services at Worthing (emergency surgery, inpatient paediatrics and maternity) will not jeopardise 2012 training plans.

If, when more detail of the plans for 2012 is available, any special arrangements need to be put in place on a temporary basis, I'm confident we can agree that with local NHS providers.

The PCT recognises that as with other major events (such as events held at Goodwood) there is no reason why special arrangements could not be made for the relatively short period when extra demand is needed.

Of course, events organisers also have a responsibility to make sure they have adequate arrangements in place for the safety of those attending.
