OLD FOLK'S HOMES TO BE SOLD

Wealden District Council's Cabinet today )June 70) has taken a strategic decision to sell off one of its under-utilised sheltered housing schemes in Polegate.

Money raised by the sale will be reinvested in the future development of other sheltered accommodation schemes and affordable housing in the district.

But members of Cabinet stressed that before any sale takes place, suitable accommodation will be found for Towermill Place's 19 remaining residents, many of whom are over 80.

"We are the biggest provider of sheltered accommodation in the district, and we take our responsibilities seriously," said Councillor Mrs Margaret Kirkpatrick, Cabinet member for Housing & Community Development.

"Before any sale takes place, we will first make sure that the remaining residents have been found new accommodation at a location which suits them and meets their needs. We have spoken individually to 16 of the 19 residents who have expressed differing desires about future accommodation, and we will try our very best to satisfy them."
