Partner Ian Burrows said the company was always ‘trying to be slightly ahead’, and had its own innovative ways of working.

The business has recently started working with The Cloud – which means the firm and its clients can access accounting records at any time, anywhere.

“We can work much more closely,” he said.

He said it was ‘taking it to the next level’.

“We’re constantly looking at new ways of doing things and ways to serve our clients.”

The Cloud means clients can send invoices and check their financial records from their iPhone, computer or another other mobile device.

He talked about why firms should enter the awards, and the benefits it can bring.

“There is no point in being the best at what you do if nobody actually knows that you do it,” he said.

“It is tough in business, this is an opportunity for people to actually let the world know they have a good business and hopefully that will generate an awareness in what they do in order for them to gain some benefit from it.”

He said the process of filling out the entry form was a benefit in itself.

“It gets you to consider what you’re doing and where you are going,” he said.

It is almost like writing a business plan – and he stressed the importance of businesses having a clear view of their future.

Sponsoring the awards for a number of years, the firm ‘likes to be involved in the community’, he said.

Spofforths has branches in Chichester, Worthing, Horsham and Brighton, and will be holding workshops to get businesses to grips with a new and innovative way of working.

The event will teach people how to use online accounting software Xero, but places are limited.

The workshop is on March 25. Email [email protected] for more information.
