North Bersted gardener wins award

Barry Chambers achieved the honour for his themed garden at the Hampton Court Palace flower show.

His plot, based on John Keats’ sonnet, On the Sea, was also judged to be the best English poet’s garden at the event.

Mr Chambers, 40, of Chichester Road, said he chose the sonnet because it combined his sentiments about being by the sea and gardening.

His garden contained giant oat grass, wild carrots and wild flowers typical of vegetated shingle.
