Ninfield Vilage Voice - August 29

SUMMER FETE: Fingers are crossed for fine weather tomorrow Saturday, August 30 the day of St. Mary's Summer Fete.

This will be held in the rectory and Reading Room gardens. There will be so much for families to enjoy including produce, preserves, bottle stall, bric-a-brac, cakes and a tombola. For the children Mr Zippy, a clown, will entertain and Linda will please small people with face painting.

You can visit between 2pm and 4pm and enjoy a strawberry and cream tea too. Your support of your village church will be much appreciated.

NINFIELD BOWLS CLUB: On Wednesday, August 20 Ninfield were at home to Iden, Ninfield were the winners. The following Saturday, the 23rd, a home match against Hellingly, the sun shone brightly and due to a penalty the match resulted in a win by half a point. I do not know the result for the match against Alexandra Park played on Sunday 24th at home.

MOBILE LIBRARY: This welcome service will be calling in our two villages tomorrow afternoon. The library van will be parked opposite Denbigh Court in Hooe from 1.50pm until 2.35pm. From there it is driven to Ninfield calling first in Millfield between 2.50pm and 3.25pm. The next call is in Downs View arriving at 3.40pm and leaving at 4.05pm.

NINFIELD PARISH COUNCIL: The next meeting will be held on Thursday, September 4 (what happened to summer!) The meeting will be in the Methodist Church Hall, Church Lane as usual and will start at 7.150pm.

Residents of Ninfield are always most welcome to attend.

NINFIELD VILLAGE STORES: We are fortunate to have such a good village shop in Ninfield so it was very disappointing to learn about the break-in. It is hoped that the CCTV picture of the thief will enable the police to make contact with him before long.

If you haven't visited the village shop recently perhaps you could pop in, look at the photographs and see whether you think you can help the police.

COFFEE MORNING: Advance notice that there will be a Macmillan Biggest Coffee Morning in Ninfield on Friday morning September 26. It will be held in the Reading Room, Church Lane as usual and if the weather is truly warm the garden could be used as well.

Reminders will follow nearer the date, this is just for you to make a note in your diary.

SIBLING: At the recent Summer Show I met the grandparents whose small grandson makes us smile, as many do, at the things he says.

Grandma was scolding small two-year-old sister, Jake was taking it all in. When Grandma had finished Jake said solemnly, "We thought it would be nice to have a baby but she's been rather naughty over the years." He is four-years-old.

As the weather was so disappointing during the weekend I thought this might raise a smile. Hope you enjoyed it anyway, the weekend I mean.
