Mystery £200 donation for Battle of Britain appeal

For the second year running Bexhill's Battle of Britain appeal has been boosted by a £200 gift from a mysterious lady.

Ken Igglesden, president of the local branch of the Royal Air Force Association, told the Observer his delight on finding the cheque stuffed into one of the collecting tins from Saturday's fundraising effort.

He recognised the donor's name from last year when she also gave 200 - but more than that he doesn't know.

"We had the ATC cadets out collecting on Saturday and when we opened the boxes we found in one this cheque for 200," said Ken.

"We found the name of the lady and it was the same that gave 200 last year '“ but she didn't want to make a fuss about it. I actually saw her last year because she came in the Albatross club while I was in there.

She handed me this envelope and immediately went out...when I opened it there was 200, but she was gone...she was in and out so quick. She doesn't want any fuss made, but I would like to say thank you very much indeed. It is a marvellous gift. I would love to know more, because there must be a reason for it, or a story behind why she does it."
