MP raps post office closure

THE Post Office has revealed it cancelled its contract with the Newhaven Mount Pleasant Post Office sub-postmaster due to 'disciplinary reasons'.

The post office has been closed since January 20 and there are no plans for it to reopen, a Post Office spokesman confirmed. He would give no further details as to why the contract with the sub-postmaster had been brought to an end.

For a period before its closure a temporary postmaster was appointed but now the search is on for new premises and a permanent replacement.

Newhaven's MP Norman Baker condemned Post Office bosses for not maintaining the service. He said: 'It is very inefficient that they have not put in a temporary manager and obviously very inconvenient for the people of Denton.'
