More than 6,000 fly-tipping incidents:three prosecuted

Despite more than 6,000 incidents of fly-tipping in West Sussex between April 2005 and March 2006, only three people in the county were successfully prosecuted.

The figures released by Flycapture, the national database of fly-tipping incidents, which is run by the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Environment Agency and the Local Gov ernment Association make grim reading.

The results have led East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton to call for those who are carrying out these acts to be dealt with more severely.

He said: "I am very worried by the scale of the fly-tipping problem and I know this is an issue with which my constituents are concerned as I often receive representations from people thoroughly fed-up with the state of the local roadsides and council land.
