Mary Droppins is all set for the great leap

Meet Mary Droppins. The popular nanny will be making an appearance at the Bognor Regis Birdman event this weekend.

The Walt Disney children's character has been renamed by Georgina Connolly to reflect the fact she will be plunging rather than flying in the competition.

Georgina (23) said: 'I thought Mary Poppins would be a good character to take part as. I like the way she dresses.

'I thought changing her name to Droppins made sense because that's what I will be doing in the water.'

Georgina, of Warwick Place in Felpham, said she had seen Birdman several times from the shore.

'It's a good competition and I am looking forward to taking part. It's something different and I think it will be exciting. I'm not nervous or scared about it at all,' she stated.

She will be using her experience to raise funds for the Thursday Zone club in Donnington which she attends monthly. It provides a social activity for those who are in wheelchairs, or deaf, or have learning difficulties.

Georgina, who has dyslexia and is deaf in her left ear, explained: 'I enjoy going to the club. I get to do different activities and meet people and it's good to have a say in what we want to do the next month.'

She will decide how she will spend her sponsorship to benefit the club when she knows the final total.

She is a student at the Bognor High Street branch of Chichester College where she is studying English and maths.
