Marathon challenge set to raise funds for Littlehampton charity

The owner of a Littlehampton based mobile phone repairs and services business is set to take on the London Marathon.

Philip Mitchell, 54, is the manager of Sussex Mobiles in Littlehampton, which is located at Manor Parade Shops on Church Street.

He said: “Until June 8 last year, I was a really heavy drinker, drinking every day. I weighed 15 stone, and one day after playing with my grandchildren and getting out of breath, I decided to change my life around. I joined the Wee Old Skool Gym in Littlehampton, where I took on a personal trainer and started training, doing 10k runs every morning.

“One day at work, Tracey, the founder of Jamie’s Wish, a charity which sends Wish Boxes across England and Wales to children and young adults with cancer, and also mum to Jamie, came into our shop. She mentioned that she had a place in 2017 London Marathon but unfortunately the runner she had pulled out. I volunteered to step in and do the London Marathon myself.

“Since then I have continued to train hard, and I have also participated in the Littlehampton, Arundel and Worthing 10k runs, and also Worthing’s half marathon.In doing all this, I have lost three stone in weight and feel confident in running the 26 mile London Marathon on behalf of Jamie’s Wish, which is an amazing charity.

“So far to date, we have raised more than £1,500, thanks to our customers at Sussex Mobiles and many people from our local community. We would like to try and double this, so I’m asking people to please help this amazing charity by sponsoring me via Facebook, JustGiving, or by visiting us down at Sussex Mobiles.”
