Man threatened police with gun

The charges relate to an incident last Friday nightwhen police attended a report of an injured man at a property in Aldwick Road. On arrival, officers were threatened with a firearm and armed police were sent to the scene.

Steven Russell, aged 23, of Aldwick Road, has been charged with possession of an air weapon with intent to cause fear or violence, affray, firing an air weapon beyond premises and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He appeared at Chichester Magistrates Court on Monday and the case was adjourned until February 5 at Chichester Crown Court.

No one was injured during the incident, which lasted for an hour from 7.48pm. Police closed Aldwick Road outside the house concerned and diverted traffic.

Nearby residents were warned to stay in their homes and the Tesco Express store in the area was closed to ensure the public's safety.
