Man needs immediate surgery after ‘random attack’ in Littlehampton

A MAN required urgent hospital treatment after he was the victim of serious assault in Littlehampton last night (Wednesday, June 18), police have said.

The 45-year-old was attacked while he was walking along Norfolk Road at some point between 10.45pm and 11.15pm when he was approached by another man and punched.

Following the assault, police said he needed immediate surgery to treat a suspected brain haemorrhage.

He was rushed to Hurstwood Park Hospital, in Haywards Heath, where surgeons operated on him.

Today he is being described as being in ‘stable condition’ by police.

The force is now appealing for any witnesses to the assault to come forward and contact them.

The suspect who punched the 45-year-old was seen getting into a silver Mercedes, which police believe had other occupants in it.

The car then drove away from the scene.

The suspected attacker is described as white, of stocky build, with bald or close cropped hair, and wearing light coloured shirt and trousers, possibly Chinos.

It is believed that he is of Eastern European origin.

Detective Sergeant Colin O’Hare said; “The motive for this incident is not yet known, and at present it appears to have been a random attack. However enquiries are at an early stage and we are appealing for any witnesses to contact us at Worthing CID via 101 or email [email protected] quoting serial 1796 of 18/6.
