‘Loyal’ Brian says goodbye to school

Dedicated Brian has been a governor at the school for the last 37 years, since 1974 when the school was opened on the present site.

Head Pauline Higgs said: “Brian has seen the school change over the years and should feel proud of his contributions to the successful and happy school that it is.

“He will be greatly missed at governor meetings for his good humour and his steadfast common sense. As a Community Governor Brian has taken on every role within the Governing Body over the years and we will greatly miss his input to the meetings and his regular, often weekly visits to the school - just popping in to see if we are OK and is there anything he can do.“

Three years ago Brian received a long service award from East Sussex County Council at a special ceremony to recognise his and others’ achievements.

Brian and his wife Janet have recently moved out of Icklesham and Brian has decided the time has now come for him to retire.

Mrs Higgs wanted to acknowledge the huge commitment Brian has made and to say, on behalf of all the governors, staff, pupils and parents “Thank you Brian for giving up so much of your time and for the contribution you have made to the life of Icklesham CEP School.”

Mr Thompson recently attended a special sharing assembly where he was presented with gift vouchers and a framed collage of photographs illustrating his life at the school.
