Live music at Milligan's Cellar Club

ANOTHER strong programme of live music from the Cellar Club team begins at Milligan's this month.

The Wilton Road venue was found after the success of regular blues, funk and jazz nights outgrew Bexhill's seafront restaurant That's Amore.

Brothers Daniel and Rory Clifford, working with parents Mike and Carmel, have invited Japanese guitar virtuoso Saiichi Sugiyama and his five piece, soul, funk and blues band to play on Friday, October 16.

One of the most recognisable performers on the blues circuit, Saiichi has become an unlikely champion of the British style through his obsession with the revival of the vintage tone and work with the lyricist of the multi-platinum band Cream, Pete Brown.

Prolific songwriter Earl Green, one of the UK's premier blues vocalists, will play with The Right Time, a unit providing a powerful platform for Earl's voice, on Saturday, October 31.

Born in Jamaica, Earl has been in the UK since his early teens. He was voted British Blues Connections vocalist of the year in 1996 and 97, and then won a similar award sponsored by Blues in Britain in 2000 and 2002.

Daniel said: "Both Saiichi and Earl have been gracious in accepting our invitations to perform at our fledgling club, mainly because I am such a young promoter and they want to support my endeavours in making Milligan's Cellar Club a great success and renowned music venue on the South Coast.
