Littlehampton musicians’ tribute to a brave mum

THE husband and two children of a Littlehampton woman who lost her battle with cancer a year ago will play at a moving concert in her memory next week.

Chris Buckwell, his son Dominik, 15 and daughter Veronika, 11, will be among the musicians performing at the thanksgiving concert inspired by Beata Buckwell and her courageous two-year struggle against the disease.

It has been organised by Littlehampton music teacher Maurice Ozanne, who teaches Chris and his children.

He is extending the concert’s appeal to other families who have been affected by the loss of a loved one, too. “The concept is that of a thanks giving concert, where the bereaved can remember family and friends who have passed on. It will not be a sad affair, but rather one of celebration.”

The Buckwells have links with the Lancing Brass and Worthing Salvation Army bands, both of whom will be playing at the concert, on Saturday, August 31, at St Catherine’s Catholic Church, Beach Road, Littlehampton, at 7pm.

Chris, Dominik and Veronika, of Toddington Lane, will be joined by a friend to play as a brass ensemble, and vocalist Bryony Morrison, who sang at Beata’s funeral in Arundel Cathedral, will also take part.

Admission is free, but a retiring collection will be taken for St Barnabas House hospice, where Beata died.
