Littlehampton care home communi-tea spirit

Regency Court Nursing Centre, in South Terrace, held a 1930s tea party, as part BUPA's Communi-tea Week, and invited older people from the neighbourhood to join them.

Barbara Everard, activities co-ordinator, said: "We do this twice a year, and its about getting involved in the community around us.

"A few people from the neighbouring area came in, and said that they had a jolly good time."

Littlehampton Museum even lent the home a collection of 1930s artefacts to examine, such as a typewriter, butter paddles and tankards.

"We passed them around and had a reminisce about them. It's great for the residents, as it stimulates their memories."

They also enjoyed high tea, and a game of bingo, as well as listening to music from the time.

"Everyone said that they had a lovely time," said Barbara, "Even though we did not have a lot of people coming in from outside, it is great for the residents to have a bit of fun, and helps them to think outside of the same four walls."
