Littlehampton braced for weekend pancake madness

LITTLEHAMPTON will be going flipping mad on tomorrow (Saturday, February 9) as a record-breaking number of teams looks set to take part in this year’s Pancake Olympics.

Around 25 teams will be lining up in the annual charity bonanza, in High Street, from 11am until 1pm.

Voluntary groups, businesses and individuals have put together teams of four people to compete for the coveted golden frying pan awards.

Current champions The Martlets will be returning to defend their title, while two of the town’s supermarkets, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose prepare to do battle once again.

The event will see teams compete in four Olympic-inspired disciplines, including pancake relay and the challenging pancake curling.

This year’s top team will earn £100 towards their chosen charity, with both runners-up receiving £25 each, courtesy of Tesco, in Broadpiece, Littlehampton. Sainsbury’s is also supporting the day.

Tesco’s store manager Andrew Webb said: “We’re delighted to be a part of this year’s charity Pancake Olympics by sponsoring the competition prizes. The event not only raises money for charity, but is also great fun. I’d like to wish the teams taking part the best of luck.”
