Sussex Brass entertained the audience with a wide selection of music ranging from film scores, such as Out of Africa and “The Mission”, to Scotland the Brave and Amazing Grace.

The evening ended with a rousing Auld Lang Syne However, the band could not get away without a final encore of their signature tune of Sussex by the Sea.

Terry Cobby, President of Rye Lions said: “Thank you to Sussex Brass, the audience for supporting the event and to the Lions for their hard work.

“Although the evening had raised £784, Rye Lions will be increasing our donation to Macmillan Cancer Support to at least £1,000.

“This was only possible due to the generosity of the public in their support of the Lions at their various fund-raising events, such as their Christmas collections and the Annual Rye Raft Race and Fete, which this year will take place on Sunday August .

“This year Rye lions have already made donations to the Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance, Westfield Pre-school Playgroup, the Oliver Curd Trust, Rye Wurlitzer Academy, Care for the Carers, Rye and District Age Concern, St. Michael’s Hospice, the Palliative Care Unit at the Conquest, Alzheimer’s Society and a voice synthesiser for a cerebral palsy sufferer.”

He added: “This has all been achieved by Rye Lions and their partners and more could be done to help deserving causes if more Lions could be recruited.

“This fund-raising is something the Lions had fun doing, as well as holding monthly social events.
