League of Friends congratulated

THE League of Friends of Bexhill Hospital has been described as the "jewel in the crown" of town voluntary services.

Town Mayor Cllr Eric Armstrong was addressing the charity's annual meeting in the hall of the hospital's health centre.

The Mayor said that as he came towards the end of his year of office he recalled his attendance at the Hospital Garden Party and visiting Irvine Unit patients on Christmas morning with league volunteers.

"Over the year, the one thing that has struck me is the number of voluntary groups in the town. Certainly, the League of Friends are to be congratulated on their achievements.

"Volunteers make this town what it is. I speak very positively about this town to everyone I can because I have seen so much good that goes on."

Bexhill Hospital was a tremendous asset to the town. "I have been here and my children have been here. My mother-in-law is a volunteer at this hospital."

Taking up the theme developed by the league's president in opening the meeting, the Town Mayor pledged to do all he could to help boost the charity's membership.
