Kittens found in Bognor given purr-fect care

The pet owners found themselves on a mission of life and death during their regular walk there last Saturday (November 5) morning.

The kittens, about nine to ten weeks old, are being treated at Downland Veterinary Hospital for worms and fleas but are in good health with new homes arranged.

Dog owner Marcus White, of Lyon Street, was with Zeus the spaniel when the emergency unfolded.

He said: “We were alerted by our dogs to the presence of the kittens by chance as they’d been abandoned in a thick hawthorn bush in an out-of-the-way corner of the park.

“From that moment on, it was a case of all hands – or paws – on deck to rescue the kittens.

“They were difficult to reach and, after struggling through the thorny bush for some time, the kittens were gradually removed cold, wet and scared.”

They were placed in a bag and taken to Downland in Victoria Drive in Bognor.

“The vet very kindly withheld all thought of any payment offered to take in and care for the kittens,” said Marcus.

“They were in poor condition and most certainly would not have survived but for the help of all concerned in this drama.

“Truly, this is the season of goodwill. I would like to thank Downview vets and the kind-hearted dog walkers of Hotham Park for turning what most certainly would have been a tragedy into a triumph.”
