Keith returns to lead Observer group

A FORMER managing director of the Observer Series has returned this week as the papers' new editor in chief.

Keith Ridley, pictured, succeeds Peter Lindsey, who stepped down on Tuesday, in a new role encompassing responsibility also for the Observer's sister titles in Eastbourne.

Keith was managing director of the former TR Beckett company for three years, leaving the area five years ago to become managing director of Central Counties Newspapers, within another division of Johnston Press.

A 36-year career in the industry has seen Keith previously editing titles in the Midlands and on the south coast, and he said he is relishing the opportunity to return to his journalistic roots.

"I'm excited to be back in East Sussex. These are fabulous newspapers with a great affinity for the communities they serve, and I hope to be able to maintain and build on their reputation for excellence," said Keith.

"Not only in print but also in digital form, we will aim to be a one-stop shop for all that people need to know to get the most from their lives."

Keith's appointment is a further part of a reorganisation which has seen the former TR Beckett company integrated into Sussex Newspapers.
