Jet-powered village festival

THE FIRST ever Piddinghoe Festival takes place next week.

The event, which kicks off on June 6, is a collection of art, history and fun events.

It is an extension of the Piddinghoe open gardens exhibition which takes place every year.

On Friday (June 6) Valerie Mellor, the local historian and author who is organising the festival, will talk in St John's Church about the lives of Piddinghoers from the 13th to the 19th century. Tickets are 5.

On the Saturday and Sunday there will be paintings and photographs in the village hall, a meet the animals session in the stables, find the scarecrows around the village and activities for young people, including dance workshops, face painting, games and treasure hunts.

There will also be river boat trips on a 12-passenger jet-powered catamaran from the Deep Sea Anglers' Wharf at the north end of the village.

On the Saturday night (June 7) the church will play host to internationally renowned Red Priest from Lewes, (tickets 20), and on the Sunday night there will be a parish party for villagers and friends.

Also open throughout the weekend will be the church, the village hall, and the gardens.
