Hundreds of letters against Angmering housing plan delivered

HUNDREDS of letters of opposition against a proposed large-scale housing project in Angmering have been thrust through the door of Arun District Council’s headquarters.

More than a dozen campaigners from Save Angmering Village handed in 450 letters to staff at the Arun Civic Centre, in Maltravers Road, Littlehampton, objecting to the Barratts and David Wilson Homes’ application to build 150 new homes on land east of Roundstone Lane.

The group represents a contingent of 2,500 people who are combating the possible development. However, it is appealing for more residents to join the cause.

Sue Ware, co-founder of Save Angmering Village, said the plans were a “very real threat” to the area and, if approved, could set a precedent for much more development in the village – one that could lead to some 1,000 homes being built.

She said: “It is very important to stop this first development.

“If this is not rejected it will set a precedent for others and soon, 800-1,000 houses could be built on the land. Already, VHB West End Nurseries has booked the Village Hall on October 13 and the community centre on October 27, to show its plans for possibly up to 200 houses on the VHB site.

“This is a very real threat.”

Sue is now urging as many people as possible to write a letter to the council, sharing their views on the application.

She said residents should send their letters about the plans, titled A/82/12, either online, to [email protected] by 5pm today, or to the orange Save Angmering Village letter box at Woodies News, in The Square, Angmering, by 3pm today. She added campaigners would then deliver the letters to the district council, on their behalf.
