Housing planned for Lancing?

AFFORDABLE housing could be built in Lancing now a scheme planned for Southwick has been dropped by Adur council.

Southern Housing Group wanted to build six houses on a green park area in Prince Charles Close, Southwick, but the council dropped the plans after officers found abnormally high levels of electric and magnetic fields from electricity pylons near the Close and in Highdown Road.

But councillors heard that a 300,000 social housing grant for the development from the Housing Corporation would be withdrawn if the council couldn't come up with an alternative site in the district and keep to the original timetable with building work starting next May.

The most suitable site after investigations were carried out has proved to be land at Shadwells Road and the Southern Housing Group has been asked to draw up fresh plans for that area, keeping to the strict time scales.
