Horsham gears up for Piazza Italia as popular Italian festival celebrates tenth birthday

Supercars are set to descend on Horsham as the town centre prepares to transform into a small slice of Italy over the Easter weekend.

Beautiful vehicles, fresh food and bumper entertainment are coming to town for the annual Piazza Italia event - which is celebrating its tenth birthday.

The Italian bonanza has established itself among the highlights on Horsham’s calendar and as one of the premier events in the south east over the last ten years.

And thousands of people are set to flock to the town centre between Good Friday (March 25) and Easter Monday (March 28) for the popular event.

Good Friday - which has become known as Ferrari Friday in recent years - will again be serenaded by the revved engines of a sea of bright red supercars.

The showcase begins at 10am, with most of the cars arriving at 12.15pm. They will leave the Carfax at about 3.30pm.

On Easter Saturday, the ever-popular squadron of Minis return for another year.

They will be joined by an expanded collection of supercars, which will be showcased in Market Square between 9.30am and 3pm.

As always, the celebration of all things Italy concludes with supercar heaven on Easter Monday.

This year will see dedicated displays of Lamborghinis and Maseratis, with a special guest appearance from McLaren.

The cars depart the town centre at 3pm on Monday.

But Piazza Italia is about much more than the vehicles.

More food stalls have been booked to add to the atmosphere at the Italia in Piazza food market, which will again offer a range of Italian delicacies.

There will also be plenty of entertainment, including performances in the Carfax and the highly anticipated return of Granny Tourismo.

Activities for children over the weekend include a giant Scalextric circuit, PS4 racing and a Lego Ferrari time trail build.

And a new aerial art gallery has been created in East Street, featuring the work of Italian artist Joseph Rossi.

The event will be supporting three local children’s charities - Chestnut Tree House, The Children’s Trust and Winston’s Wish.
