But today (Thursday, August 14), extraordinary human powerhouse Daphne Belt, of Toddington Lane, Toddington, will be completing her epic challenge – and all on her 75th birthday, too.

An exhausted Daphne admitted she didn’t realise quite how tough her task would be but said she has been fuelled by all the donations made to her chosen charity, Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice, in Poling, with her fundraising total standing at an impressive £5,135.

“I’ve soared past my £1,000 target, which is really lovely,” she said. “Every little donation spurs me on and makes me feel a little less tired.”

Daphne will be completing her gruelling challenge with a two mile run ending at the East Beach Café in Littlehampton, at about 2pm.

She added: “This challenge has actually been my life. I haven’t got a lot of energy left. At first, it seemed like it wasn’t very far to tackle. But it gradually gets tougher and tougher because you don’t get time to rest.”
