High Street power cut hits 1,400 homes and businesses

About 1,400 customers in a High Street area were affected by a power cut.

The power failed at 10.43am today (Tuesday) in Uckfield.

EDF Energy Network engineers restored the supply to 300 customers at 11.58am and the rest in stages until the last 215 users had power at 12.43pm.

The power failure did not hit vital services in the area such as the Meads GP surgery in Grange Road although the surgery did experience two momentary power-outs.

There was also a ten-minute loss of power in the Manor Park area in the early afternoon.

Ian Cheshire, a director of the Uckfield Denture Lab on the High Street, said: 'We were out for an hour and a half and with so many of our systems PC-based the power cut was really disruptive.

'Our deliveries go out every day to dentists across the county and not having a phone system was really disruptive.'
