Harry Potter last film shown in 35mm film at Bognor Regis

Harry Potter fans are watching history at the Bognor Regis cinema.

The final instalment of the blockbusters they are viewing is the last film at the Picturedrome to be shown in the traditional 35mm format after 92 years.

Screen One will follow Screen Two in having its projector with large reels of film replaced by a 21st-century digital projector once Harry Potter ends.

Managing director Adam Cunard, of venue operator the Picturedrome Electric Theatre Company, said: “This is the biggest revolution in film viewing here since the arrival of sound.

“The way films had been shown had not changed for decades. But we had to move to digital. The 35mm films are being phased out by the film studios.”

The new projectors have cost a five-figure sum each. They bring a clearer picture and better sound allied to an upgraded sound system. They will also allow live events to be shown.
