Grandson's party 'offers hope'

A BEXHILL couple travelled to Scotland last Friday to celebrate a very special party hosted by their grandson.

Dave and Mavis Moore joined 19-year-old Allister Boyd for the event to raise money for his two favourite charities.

The party was particularly poignant as Allister is dying from a brain tumour.

He has already beaten cancer twice before, but this time he is beyond the help of doctors.

But Allister is determined to make the most of the time he has left.

That includes hosting events such as the party held in Ayrshire, where he lives.

CLIC Sargent, a children's cancer charity, and the Teenage Cancer Trust will benefit from his gesture.

Allister held the party for the friends, family and medical staff who have stood by him during his illness.

But he also turned it into a fundraising event with the support of local businesses and a grand raffle.

Allister was first told he had a brain tumour in 2005, but battled to finish his treatment in 2007.

He developed another tumour at the base of his spine, but with the support of friends and family, pulled through and finished more treatment in June.

He was looking forward to getting on with the rest of his life when he was told the shattering news about the latest tumour just a few weeks ago.

Now he wants to say thank you to people who have supported him and celebrate his life.

Dave said: "You could say this is his legacy. He is very good at getting publicity and could have been great in the media. It's a shame he is not going to make it.

"He has picked up lots of cheques from people and got support from businesses who have read about what he is doing.

"We are incredibly proud of him. We feel for his parents and his younger brother.

"But he is doing what he wants to do and he is offering hope to young people as well as old."
