Golden times for the Trefoil Guild

BEXHILL Trefoil Guild, joined by representatives from surrounding Guilds, celebrated its 50th birthday at the weekend.

The party took the theme of old time music hall, which meant an array of fancy hats and costumes.

More than 60 people sat down to a “scrumptious” lunch of various salads and exciting desserts.

Messages of congratulations were then read out from the National, Region, and County Chairmen.

Bexhill Trefoil Guild chairman Vera Mangold said: “It is the custom of the Trefoil Guilds to “twin” with other Guilds. Bexhill is no exception and is twinned with Petts Wood in this country and Winnipeg and Nova Scotia, Canada. We were fortunate to have with us representatives from Petts Wood and Nova Scotia to celebrate with us.

“Everyone sang with great gusto – eighteen Old Tyme Songs, concluding with Auld Lang Syne.”

After the singing it was time to cut the celebration cake which was done by oldest member Flora Holt, who has moved away but made the return journey to be able to take part in the festivities.

Tea and cake for everyone followed, and the afternoon ended with the reading of a poem especially written for the occasion by a Guild in Nova Scotia, and the singing of Daylight Taps.
